Slightly off-topic: I am not a fan of the adage "always avoid alliteration." I
love adore alliteration, as evidenced by the title of this post.
Anyhoo, enough rambling. While I was making the rainbow of slabs for Steve's
placemats, I also made some for this project, and then made some others to round out the total colours to 9. I followed the directions in the lovely Arkison/Nyberg collaboration
Sunday Morning Quilts with two small exceptions. First, I didn't bother to close up the turning hole in the lining (these things are never, ever going to be empty; also: too lazy), and I cut the cardboard pieces (used to stiffen the bottom and sides) about ½" smaller in height and width so that they'd fit better.
yes, the green scraps are overflowing already and the blue are close
I love them. LOVE LOVE them. The boxes used many precious scraps in their making, and they store my scraps where I can both see them and get at them (opposite of my previous scrap "management" "system") and so far they've been wonderful. Since I've begun using the boxes, I've actually - get ready for it -
put away my scraps right after cutting out a project! WINNING!
This was one of my Q1
FAL projects and it's done done done oh yes it is.
they are adorable! I always seem to have a problem using scraps and making them look good so this kills me! lol
ReplyDeleteOh, I LOVE (yes indeed) L-O-V-E love this precious, practical, pretty project. (alliterating along with ya). And now that I've spit and spat all over the computer, I'll say thank you and goodbye.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great way to use and store scraps. Love it. Will need to give them a go. A big thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteLove these.....I've started using a similar scrap system, but I'm a bit lazy about actually putting the scraps away, okay really lazy!!

ReplyDeleteI love how you get to look at your favorite scraps when you put new scraps in these baskets. Think I'll put this on my To Do List!

Perfect timing! I've had the Sunday Morning Quilts book sitting on my kitchen counter, opened at the quilted storage box page for about a week now. Maybe today I will finally make them!
ReplyDeleteReally love these, they look fab.
ReplyDeleteOh, I love this idea. I really need to do something like this...turns out my overflowing 5-gallon tub isn't exactly cutting it.
ReplyDeleteI am making these, too. They are a bit of work but worth it in the end.
ReplyDeleteI agree on both counts!
DeleteI think you've mentioned the key, putting the scraps away as you've finished the project. I never do it! The baskets look great, but I'm afraid they wouldn't be big enough for my scraps.
ReplyDeleteHave a Good Day, Scraps, plastic boxes or drawers, bolts you can store on shelves and wrap them in plastic but make sure not a lot of sun reaches them or you could have problems with fading! Read More
