My First 241 Bag

Am I ever happy with this finish!

I thought I should have something handmade to bring with me to QuiltCon, and the Noodlehead 241 tote was just the ticket.

The front fabric is Martha Negley Classic Collection Tree Rings - I love it, especially paired with the American Jane orangey-red rulers for the contrast!

The canvas fabric is actually cut from a painting drop cloth I scored on the clearance table at Home Depot for $6.99!

The lining is Art Gallery Nature Elements and it has a lovely drape and hand.

The only adjustment I made was to lengthen the strap because I wear my purses cross-body. The pattern was pretty easy to put together for a beginner.

  2. GREAT fabric choices. You did a beautiful job. And isn't it funny that I don't know you but totally would have pegged you as an "across-the-body" purse-wearer? LOL.

  10. I love it! Anna's patterns are the best and you've picked out such fun prints! And using the drop cloth was genius! I used some to back my kids' placemats, but never thought to use it in a bag. Very crafty, lady!

  22. This is just a fabulous combination of fabric. I have the Martha Negley and just a teensy scrap of the ruler print--that orangey-red is my very favorite and I'm sad I don't have more of it. I hope you have a wonderful time at QuiltCon!

  25. what a great bag! i've always loved that AJ rulers fabric. i got a fat 1/8th of it and i scrimp and save every little square inch. what a treat to have pieces big enough to show off in a bag. that Martha Negley fabric is fabulous in a bag, too. and i adore the texture you get from the canvas.
