This month, the Vancouver Modern Quilt Guild celebrated its second anniversary. Well do I remember that first meeting - it was exhilarating, fun, and full of inspiration. It still is!
We usually have some kind of monthly block challenge, and this month, we riffed off the Quilt Con Block Challenge and used the VMQG logo colours to create 12½" by whatever blocks.
The logo (designed by Cynthia Frenette of Green Couch Designs. Cynthia is also a fabric designer with Robert Kaufman!):
My block comprises several smaller free-pieced "plus" blocks.
When I presented it at Show and Tell, I said that those plus signs symbolized all that belonging to VMQG has added to my life: friends, laughter, inspiration. Definitely "on the plus side" of things.
I love this block Felicity! Thanks for sharing the meaning behind it. You have added so much to the VMQG with your laughter, your winning smile, and your awesome quilts!ReplyDelete
Love this post :)ReplyDelete
Love this! Looking forward to seeing how you quilt it!!ReplyDelete
Looks great! It's one of those blocks I've always said I should try one day, and still haven't!ReplyDelete
Hey, just found you through Monika... great blog... I too am a fellow Canadian.ReplyDelete
Am going to follow you now=)
It's a lovely block and a great logo and it sounds like you all have the best time.ReplyDelete
That block is "positively" wonderful, hee hee!ReplyDelete
I have a "thing" for those plus signs....great block. We are doing this at the KC MQG as well.ReplyDelete
What a great block. I keep meaning to do a plus block--they are so cool!ReplyDelete
I love your block - and the idea that you guys have a block challenge at most meetings. Do you collect the blocks at the end and use them for a charity quilt? Or do you each keep your own? I'd love to hear more about this - I'm on the programming committee for the Chicago modern quilt guild, we're always looking for new ideas! :)ReplyDelete
Oooh love your block Felicity! And thanks for the mention about the VMQG logo, and fabric design too! :DReplyDelete
