WIP Wednesday

I'm pleased to report that I have had an eventful and productive week!

Finished

Easy Going Modern - Layer Cake Version

Easy Going Modern - the Layer Cake edition. Very happy with this finish.

Made Progress

Stacked Strips in progress

I finished piecing the Stacked Strips (Books?) blocks that I won in the VMQG's block lottery in February. There's a fair bit of foofiness (technical term) happening at that centre vertical seam, though. Dealing with all those pieced strips can be a challenge, and I think the horizontal seams got a bit stretched as I sewed. It's a little more than I am confident I could quilt out, so it needs to be fixed. I'm not going to do anything right now, though. I need some time to pout about it. In any case, other projects are pressing, so perhaps it's just as well.

Sneak Peek
Tutorial Sneak Peek

I'm putting the finishing touches on my tutorial for Sarah @ FairyFace Designs' {Sew} Get Started Beginners' Sewing Tutorials series. I'm reluctant to call that a new project but I guess it is, kind of. I have had to make another potholder because I didn't photograph my steps when I made the originals. My tute (ha ha I said "toot") goes up on April 12th. Don't worry, I'll remind you!

  4. You totally just made me laugh out loud. I think it was the words: foofiness, pout (not that pout is a particularly funny word--it was just the context, I guess), and tute/toot. Anyway, things are looking fabulous!

  5. Oops - I'm back. I was trying to write about how I love the word 'foofiness' and will use it from now on in place of another 'f' word! The quilts look lovely, and that book one will be just the ticket for reading under.

  6. The Layer Cake quilt cake looks awesome, love the backing! Can't wait to see the finished stacked books quilt, it looks awesome. I can understand the need to pout some though :D Sometimes you just need a break when things don't go as planned!

  12. Love the stacked books quilt and surely all foofy bits disappear when you quilt it!? That's what I tell myself anyway ;-)

  14. I just LOVE the stacked books quilt, it's gorgeous! The foofiness is definitely not obvious in the photos - maybe it would disappear with quilting? :-)

  15. Maybe I am a bit biased being a librarian by education but the books are lovely.... I've seen some quilts with books on shelves but this is better. Me.Like.Alot :)

  16. I love both your quilts! I always have lots of trouble with horizontal strips like in the 'stacked books'.
One thing I do now is reverse directions each time you sew on a strip. Another thing is to square up the sections as you do them.
Also, I've noticed that when I start a seam it tends to be a little narrower than the quarter inch, so I often have to fix that too.
All these things can add to a bit of a rippling effect.Of course that doesn't help you now.
I hope your able to fix it. It's a striking quilt!

  17. Yay for pouting! It will come to you. I have found a few days away from a project makes everything ok and a lot more doable! Good luck. I can't wait to see the finish.

  18. I agree with the yay for pouting bit, you totally get to do that when you run into trouble. I do love that stacked books quilt, though, such an awesome idea. I hope you're able to work it out!

  19. I love the stacked books so I hope you can work out the seams. That's always a bummer :(

  20. Love the 1/2 for your stats. :) Everything looks great!

  21. There's nothing wrong with a little foofiness! And I love the stacked books, I think they're awesome.

  23. Bummer about the foofiness! No doubt you can make it work.

  24. You lucky duck, winning all those blocks! I'm sure you can defoofify it though, it will be done!

  25. Love Easy Modern, and the backing fabric is amazing too. Stacked Books looks great...can the foofiness be quilted out?

  26. I'll be curious as to how you'll quilt those stacks. Nice win!

  29. Love the backing on the Easy Going Modern quilt. Sometimes picking that is as much fun as fabrics for the front.

  30. Love the stacks! Very cool.
    Your header looks great!

  31. Beautiful, of course! Hee, hee! I love how the first quilt is ever so slightly wofting in the wind. The stacked books are inspirational and make me want to make one with my scraps!

  32. Kudos on the layer cake quilt, but I have to say the stacked strips top is very striking. And I completely understand needing to take time off to pout about having to do a "fix". One should never rush into those sorts of things without taking the due time, or invariably more mistakes and frustration will occur! At least, that's how it happens for me!

  33. "foofy" or not, those stacked strips are great!

  34. Love that modern layercake quilt!

  36. Thank you for letting me know that I have a problem with foofiness with one of my quilts when I thought that it was wavy borders and my fault. Foofiness sounds as if it must be the quilts fault!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Well I not sure about foofiness..it's looks fine to me:)

  38. The stacked strips quilt looks amazing! I see no evidence of foofiness. : ) Thanks for linking up to WIP Wednesday!
