WIP Wednesday

It's that time of the week again - WIP Wednesday!

 WIP Wednesday at Freshly Pieced

I did a fair bit of sewing over the last week, but not a lot of work on my quilts.

MADE A LOT OF PROGRESS ON...

A new project commissioned by the junior member of the household. She doesn't like to wear Daddy's old shirt as a painting smock, and she eyeballed the smock in my library copy of Sew Liberated. Thus, we now have an appropriate artist's smock. It's a cool design that lets the child put it on independently (the neck is elasticized - no fasteners at all).

Apologies for the blurry photos. The new camera rocks the macro but not the low light regular shots.

I assume it goes without saying that she chose all the fabrics herself, and requested the enormous heart appliqué right smack dab in the middle of the front.

Here is the artiste herself (again with the grainy low light shot - sorry!):

I finished the last of the smock as she was in the bath and she insisted on trying it on, wet hair and all.

Edited: I linked this post up to Lily's Quilts Fresh Sewing Day - check out all the links!!

Oh and I couldn't make just one since G's little friend from school comes over twice a week to give her dad time to go to the gym. No special heart appliqué on this one, but all the trim matches!

I am fairly certain that fabric is upside down. Oops.

So that's what I did this weekend instead of working on quilts.

I also made a bee block - I was determined to be first to post my finished block this month in Sew & Bee Happy for no other reason than I was tired of being one of the last.
Mod Mosaic for racrobin (rachel) Sew & Bee Happy

Rachel asked for the Mod Mosaic style block. They look neat but man oh man are they time consuming. At least the way I did it, which wasn't too organized - just randomly choosing scraps rather than planning each section. Lots of little seams on this one. I won't be making a whole quilt of them anytime soon but I do like how it turned out.

MADE ABSOLUTELY NO PROGRESS ON...

Everything else. The end.

  1. Love that little smock! I'm going to have to dig out my copy of Sew Liberated, I must have flipped right past that! As for your bee block, you're right, Mod Mosaic blocks are time consuming, but I just love how uniquely they turn out. :)

I always wondered about those mod moasic blocks and how time consuming they are. Yours looks really awesome, great work.

  15. I remember seeing the smock when I checked the book out from the library! I didn't make anything, but it's on my personal collection wishlist.

And I love how excited she is to try it on, wet hair and all! You did a fantastic job with both smocks, and who cares if the fabric is upside down on the other one? I couldn't tell until you pointed it out, and even then I don't think I can tell very well...

I *love* comments, and I try to respond to every one by email (but I can't if you're a no-reply blogger!). So go on, don't be shy - leave one to let me know you've stopped by!
