That Pesky Quilting Question Again

I have finished the Confetti Quilt top and now a young woman's mind turns to matters of quilting. It's not going to be a machine cover anymore - I like it too much as a mini quilt (it's about 19"x17").

I figure I've got a few options for quilting this bad boy:

  1. All-over free motion pattern such as stipple/meander or bubbles.
  2. All-over pattern such as a crosshatch, wavy lines (vertical and/or horizontal), random straight lines in a diagonal setting;
  3. In-the-ditch around all the coloured confetti;
  4. Echo quilting around all the coloured confetti;
  5. Other.

Posting this (late) to the Workshop in Progress linky, hoping for some opinions and advice.

  1. Echo is what comes to mind immediately, although talk about intense with this piece! I think the other kind of quilting that would look awesome would be random straight (or slightly wonky) lines. Good luck!

  2. What Elizabeth D said... echo quilting would make the confetti pop...

  3. If you are up for it, I think a line of colorful hand stitching in the white around each confetti piece would look incredible! Second vote- random lines as it would go with the randomness of the pieces.

  4. What's it for again? I recall a machine cover? If so, I'd go for imperfect horizontal lines in white right across the whole shebang about 1" to 1 1/2" apart. But that's just me, and this is YOUR project!

  5. My vote is with echo quilting as well - I like the idea of using colored thread for that.

  6. Very merry design! The echo quilting would be perfect, would you start right in the center of the colorful blocks? But the idea of hand quilting appeals to me as well!

  7. Kristie's first vote is what immediately popped into my head. Echo quilt - either machine or hand - with a colored thred.

  8. Echo quilting the confetti sounds the coolest to me.

    But, I'd probably be lazy and do random diagonal lines. :)

  9. Another vote for echo quilting, right here! It's so much easier to do something like that on a small quilt.

  10. I like the echo quilting idea too. Great little quilt you've got there! Can't wait to see the finish

I *love* comments, and I try to respond to every one by email (but I can't if you're a no-reply blogger!). So go on, don't be shy - leave one to let me know you've stopped by!
