Up, Down and All Around

Hooray! Another finish!
Up Down and All Around

I called this quilt "Kaleidoscope Strippy" for the longest time because the fabrics in it are the same as the ones I used in another project - Star City. When I was cutting the strips from which to cut the kaleidoscope triangles, I cut some more strips in random widths to make a second quilt.

Upward

I intended to simply sew the WOF strips together in an order similar to the strips on the original inspiration, one of our towels:

But then I embarked on my UFO-finishing strategy of turning UFOs into quilts for the nieces and nephews, and something that was only 40" wide (as a WOF-strip quilt tends to be) wouldn't work. So I made strip sets and cut them up, then rearranged them in a parquet setting. Then the name came to me - Up, Down and All Around, because the stripes seemed to go every which way.

more quilting

I quilted this quilt in my favourite loopy loop quilting motif using Aurifil 40wt thread in the colour 2324 that magically seems to go with everything.

Backing is another favourite - Ikea Nummer fabric.

And binding is a fun orange print.

The quilt finishes at 60" x 72", and it's one of my Q2 FAL finishes. Woo hoo!

  3. To me the fabric looks so different in this project than in your other one. I think it's the addition of the solid. Interesting how that works! A lovely finish, and I love your loopy quilting.

  4. Ooh, love this - definitely inspiration. (And I Spy Mendocino Octopi!) And I really have to check out the IKEA near my workplace for backing fabrics. :)

I *love* comments, and I try to respond to every one by email (but I can't if you're a no-reply blogger!). So go on, don't be shy - leave one to let me know you've stopped by!
