Unintended Consequences

I am not sure if I mentioned this, and you may have noticed anyway, but I have sworn off all bees and most swaps this year in order to concentrate on projects for *me*.

The unintended consequence of this decision, however, is that I fell like I have less to share on the blog! Bigger projects take longer and the same project photos are really boring.

But having said that, I am happy to report that I did some quick sewing of some blocks for the VMQG block lotto/challenge.

This month, we're doing Japanese X Plus blocks (tutorial here). For every one you make, you get a ticket to win all of the submitted blocks.

Here are my three:

X + block 3

X + block 2

X + block 1

I started cutting the blocks out intending to use the same fabric for all four parts of the X, but then switched it up to make the blocks a bit scrappier. Hopefully when I win all the blocks (ha ha not really that much of a joke because admittedly I have excellent luck when it comes to VMQG door prize and block lotto draws), the fact that the same fabrics appear in all three blocks won't be as noticeable.

Have a happy Monday - I sure am because it's my day off work. And it's sunny (sorry, Winnipeg).

  6. These are really cute! And I think you share plenty. I'd rather see fewer projects that mean more than a ton of throwaways that have less substance for you, or that you felt you were cranking out at a factory pace. Slow works as well as fast does sometimes. :-)

  8. I do like that dark fabric that looks like buildings ... any chance you can remember which line it's from? It's nice that you are taking some time to work on your own projects for a while :)

  9. What a brilliant idea, yes I have to agree all the sewing I've done in the past while has been for bees and swaps. I think I'm ready for a break too! Fun as they are one does tend to get behind on their own stuff. Time to hurry up mustard and ketchup!

    Love the scrappy-ness!

  10. I totally understand about the "slow sewing". For me, I've been trying hard to do fewer quilt alongs, so my blog has been pretty empty too. Thanks for the update :-).

I *love* comments, and I try to respond to every one by email (but I can't if you're a no-reply blogger!). So go on, don't be shy - leave one to let me know you've stopped by!
