The New Wave Quilt is Officially a WIP!

Yay! I *love* starting fresh projects! This one, in particular, has been awaiting my attention for quite some time. I am delighted to be able to move it from the WIMM list to the WIP list.

So far so good. I like the fabrics, but the layout/order needs some tweaking, I think.

new wave in progress

I need some advice, actually. See the butterfly fabric, the dark one in the fourth row from the top? The butterflies have pink accents in them. And the floral in the top row has pink accents in one of the flowers. Would a pink row look too crazily out of place? Or just the right amount of 'zing'?

Or what about substituting a couple of rows of pink for the white sashing between rows (not pictured because I wanted to save room on the design wall)?

I may have to do a bit of experimenting with that.

Linking up with Lee for WIP Wednesday!

  1. Oh, I *love* the new wave pattern, it's definitely on my to do list. Yours is going to be fantastic. I think either a pink row or some pink sashing would be awesome. What if you just did pink sashing around the few rows that have pink accents? That would really make those accents pop. I think a pink row would look really cool, but it would have to be just the right fabric, so that your eye wasn't just drawn to that one row. This is one of those patterns you can't really go wrong with. I'm so excited to see what your finished project turns out like!

  2. Oh, I've been wanting to try this pattern!!! A cool light pink row would look really nice with this, or just using pink as your sashing would be cool and unexpected too. Can't wait to see how this one turns out! :)

  4. Oh dear...I personally think a row of pink would look off with all that green...but what do I know. I like the idea of using it for the sashing...I don't know. =)

I can't wait to see what you come up with though. =)

  6. Me too--about the pink sashing, I mean. The wave is definitely on my to-do list.

  7. I think a pink row would be very cool - it would stand out, and it would probably be the most noticeable part of the design, but in this case I think that would really work! Just make sure it's not the center row, obviously. I would place the pink row three or four rows in.

Great quilt in great fabric, I love!

  8. I made myself a new wave template...that was as far as it got. Love them though. And I agree, I think some pink in the right shade could look really good!

  11. hmm, what about re-aranging the rows? Maybe take the top row down to the bottom third?

Light pale pink would work for the sashing I think. Good luck!!! I have a pile sitting in a basket with this pattern... the fabrics are getting to know each other before I get started.

  13. What about pink thread satin stitched between the rows?

I think more pink would look great with this fabric.

  14. I think a bit of pink would add some contrast and look great. I love the idea of doing it in the sashing- but don't do it adjacent to the fabrics with the actual pink in them. I also think it is a bit "top heavy"...the 4 darker fabrics are all in the top half or so...maybe take #1or2 and bring them nearer the bottom?

I have a new wave in Nicey Jane that I started this summer, sitting, basted, just waiting for some action! But since it is for ME, it is always on the back burner :-) Soon, I hope!
