Woo hoo! or, "How I Learned to Overcome My Fear of Elastic Thread"

I did it! I did it! I shirred something. Elastic thread is EASY SO SO EASY to use. Even I figured it out on the first go-around.

This tutorial is what helped me (warning: it's a pdf). Lots of pictures in there to help.

Looky what I made! It's the beginnings of a dress made from a pillowcase ($1.99 thank you Value Village!).

All it needs is straps and a hem and we're good to go. Oh, and we also need my kid to stop refusing to try it on. Seriously, what the heck, kid? I truly don't know what her objection is. Maybe once the straps are attached? We'll see....

Did I mention how EASY it is to use elastic thread? It is. Seriously. Just do it. You'll be like me and want to shir everything in sight.

  1. Haha! Congrats, I just took the elastic thread plunge too! I've had it in my sewing room for months now, and I just tackled shirring! It was suprisingly easy and successful the first go round! Woohoo! Congrats!

I *love* comments, and I try to respond to every one by email (but I can't if you're a no-reply blogger!). So go on, don't be shy - leave one to let me know you've stopped by!
