Christmas Tree Skirt

I've had these Moda Maison de Noel fabrics around for a while, always intending to make a Christmas Tree Skirt out of them but never really finding the right inspiration.

The VMQG challenge for November/December is to make a Tree Skirt, so I hemmed and hawed but today, when I saw That Girl's You + Me quilt, I knew I had a design. I used Jennifer's awesome Cross Block Tutorial. (If you cut a 6" WOF strip from two contrasting fabrics, you can make two whole blocks with very little fabric waste).

I kind of like how the modern block contrasts with the traditional-style fabric:

I cut and pieced these 9 blocks in 2 hours tonight.

Tomorrow night, I'll trim them and put together the top so I can bring the WIP in for Show and Tell at Guild on Thursday. Whee! I love quick projects!

P.S. I'm joining Lee over at Freshly Pieced for WiP Wednesdays. Come over and check it out!

  1. I think I have some of that fabric...or maybe it just looks very similar! What a great idea for a tree skirt.
