Judy over at Patchwork Times is leading a weekly Stash Report to help motivate us to reduce our stash. She's quite the motivator herself - she makes pretty big quilts so those numbers are big when she puts them in her "out" column!
Today, she has an absolutely fantastic
post on the basics of Stashbusting. It's well worth a read. It got me thinking about my scrap
strategy policy situation. I've got a big bin full of small scraps that I just cannot seem to part with. I use them here and there for one-off blocks such as the President's block for our guild president, or Victoria's
Block Gather, but other than that I really don't go in there. Maybe I should take Judy's cue and start cutting the scraps up into more useable size pieces and really commit to something like a
Leader/Enders quilt like Bonnie has on her site.
Decisions, decisions. I've got a real dearth of time, though - that's probably my main hangup. I would rather be working on an actual quilt than going through my scraps and pressing/cutting/sorting them.
What works for one may not work for another. Once you find what works for you, I think you'll be surprised at how easy it is to use the stash/scraps. It's kind of a mindset. For too long, I ran to the quilt shop and bought what I needed. I could not pull from my stash to save my life but now that I've learned to do it, I'd rather use my stash fabric than go shopping. I hope the same thing happens to you soon.
